News Press Release dated 24 July 2007 Shropshire Fine Herbs win 4 Golds at 2007 Great Taste Awards Shropshire Fine Herbs from Alderton, near Harmer Hill are celebrating after winning 4 prestigious Great Taste Awards. Shropshire Fine Herbs have been presented with much coveted Gold Awards for their: Thyme Oatmeal Biscuits and Canapé Bases Regarded as the industry Oscars, The Guild of Fine Food's annual Great Taste Awards are the UK's largest independent evaluation of fine food and drink. Commenting on the awards, Annie Laughton of Shropshire Fine Herbs said "We are so excited to have won 4 out of the 7 golds awarded in the highly competitive "Biscuits for Cheese" sector. We only started making cheese biscuits before Christmas 2006 and to have our products recognised in this way makes all the hand rolling and cutting worthwhile. Our aim has always been to use the best possible local ingredients and while the fresh herbs are our own, we are very fortunate to have Pimhill as neighbours where we can buy all our organic flours and oatmeal. In the first 6 months of 2007 we have built up a very loyal customer base throughout the country, targeting our sales to independent specialist cheese shops and up market delicatessens. To have won these awards will be a huge boost to our sales and distribution". Each year, almost 4,500 foods are blind-tasted by up to three separate teams of experts before the awards are made. Since May there have been nearly two weeks of tasting by over 400 independent judges. As a result, 530 Great Taste Awards have been given out for excellence in taste, texture and flavour.
